Jewish Self-Defense Classes for All Ages at Kojo Defense
Our Mission
At Kojo Defense, we believe that self-defense, including our Jewish self-defense classes, is not just about physical techniques but also about developing mental and emotional resilience. Our philosophy is grounded in the belief that everyone has the right to feel safe and empowered. We offer separate classes for boys and girls, as well as women’s self-defense programs, ensuring that our students in the Krav Maga Lakewood area and those seeking martial arts in Toms River, NJ, receive tailored instruction that builds their confidence and skills.
Meet The Sensei
Welcome to Kojo! My name is Mordechai Holder, or as the students call me Sensei. I've studied various styles of martial arts for over 10 years, but I fell in love with Krav Maga, especially in the Lakewood area, and that is the core of what I teach. I opened Kojo in 2019 with the vision of offering quality Jewish self-defense classes.
My goal is simple: I firmly believe everyone should know how to defend themselves and their loved ones. Whether it's through MMA, jiu-jitsu, or even learning how to operate firearms safely and legally, I want everyone to have the ability to protect themselves and those around them. There's a quote I apply to martial arts training: "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."
One of the reasons I felt so drawn to Krav Maga is its premise of body mechanics. You don't have to be in top shape (though the better shape you're in, the better you will do); anyone can do it. It's not fancy or flashy; it's direct and to the point. Just remember, simple doesn't mean easy.
Martial arts, including our separate classes for boys and girls, is amazing for building confidence, improving hand-eye coordination, and teaching discipline and control. It’s not just about control of your body, but also of your mind and emotions. Martial arts can help you realize that with focus and determination, there's not much that can stop you. We also offer specialized women's self-defense classes to empower and educate women on personal safety.
